Doctor Predator: Eric DeWarren, MD, Watches Child Porn, Has Harmed Kids in His Care, Court Documents Reveal
When parents take their child to see a doctor, they bestow a huge amount of trust upon that individual. They trust that that doctor has their child’s best interest at heart. They trust that that doctor has taken an oath to, above all else, “do no harm.” And they trust that if that doctor were to ever transgress a professional boundary with their child, there would be swift legal repercussions.
Eric DeWarren, MD, of Covington Township, Pennsylvania, has repeatedly violated these sacred assumptions, court documents show, yet has continued practicing medicine without intervention from the Pennsylvania Medical Licensing Board, nor any other official governing body. Court records reveal the primary care provider has, over the course of many years, exploited his revered position in the community by establishing a pattern of grooming and then emotionally, physically and sexually abusing children in his care.
Physicians at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), who oversaw Dr. DeWarren’s treatment of one pediatric patient, described Dr. DeWarren’s approach to treatment as “non-compliant,” actually leading to a worsening of the child’s condition.
Dr. DeWarren has also confessed, under oath, to viewing child pornography on more than one occasion stemming back to 2004, and has also allegedly forced minors into watching pornography, according to documents provided to me by the parent of one of his victims. While Dr. DeWarren presently sees patients of mixed ages in his clinic, in the early 2000s, he was working with almost exclusively pediatric patients.
Other court documents depict Dr. DeWarren’s level of mental instability, noting that he has threatened suicide by gun on multiple occasions in the presence of minors, and that he used to follow a bizarre religious doctrine that he himself now describes as a “cult.”
Meanwhile, Dr. DeWarren is still available for patient appointments.
“Fundamentally, Dr. DeWarren violated every reasonable concept of ethical patient care, and specifically contemptuously violated the AMA Code of Ethics,” wrote Dr. Larry Good, a gastroenterologist who was asked — in the course of the legal discovery process — to review Dr. Eric DeWarren’s extensive treatment of a minor who showed signs of sexual abuse — to the extent of needing a surgical procedure — after receiving Dr. DeWarren’s care.
Documents entered into evidence against Dr. DeWarren in legal proceedings include reports that he subjected at least one child in his care to a “dizzying array of unnecessary medical procedures,” resulting in that child’s further medical deterioration and multiple subsequent psychiatric diagnoses of PTSD.
According to the parent of one of his victims, Dr. DeWarren has made attempts to manipulate the judicial system to keep documents regarding his abusive treatment of children suppressed, and to continue having unfettered access to vulnerable patients. Dr. DeWarren’s accusers say he has mounted an aggressive campaign of threats and gaslighting to prevent his crimes from coming to light.
Despite evidence in the form of expert letters and legal testimony from numerous medical professionals that Dr. DeWarren has repeatedly harmed children in his care, and despite Dr. DeWarren’s own admissions under oath that he has viewed child pornography over the past two decades, he continues to practice medicine in Covington Township, and frequently treats minors at an urgent care practice on the weekends.
The system failed the defenseless children it swore to protect when it allowed Dr. DeWarren to continue practicing, and being around children, after his crimes were first brought to light. It would be an even more egregious failure to again ignore the mounting evidence that Dr. DeWarren is unfit to practice medicine and is a serious danger to children. The state medical licensing board must perform a serious inquest into Dr. DeWarren’s treatment of patients, past and present, and make sure he’s held legally accountable for his crimes.
